Loch Fyne Oyster Bar Cairndow

The original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar

Located at the head of Loch Fyne, this fine seafood restaurant and oyster bar is a must if you are in the area.

The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar & Restaurant in Cairndow is the original restaurant and has been going since the 1970s.

The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and the large windows give you a lovely view whilst enjoying your meal. On a warm day you can sit outside. When it's sunny, the light and views are spectacular. On a misty, typically Scottish day, the area is atmospheric and mythical.

When we visited, the oysters of the day were from Loch Creran and Morcambe Bay. Both were delicious, the Morcambe Bay ones were slightly larger and creamier while the Loch Creran ones were delicate and slightly saltier. The shallot vinaigrette was one of the best we've tasted.

The prices are average at £12 for half a dozen. If you prefer your oysters cooked, see here for their menu.

Non-drivers, can also sample a delicious pint of the neighbouring Loch Fyne Ales.

The restaurant also has a deli where you can buy seafood and local produce to take home.

The area around Loch Fyne is beautiful and a great place to spend a few days relaxing and eating!
